Our Mission

Our Mission is to empower children, young adults, and their families to enhance the quality of their lives through education, support, advocacy and opportunity.  We accomplish this through appropriate neighborhood-based services.

 Our services will:

•  Encourage community involvement
•  Remove transportation barriers that interfere with parent/child learning activities
• Provide opportunities for voluntary work both in the Center and in the community
• Establish a relationship between the community and town administration
• Promote social, educational, economic, and civic improvement
• Refer people to appropriate community service providers if unable to assist

  The FLC provides:

• Access to a collection of quality, age appropriate, learning tools for students and their families (books, computers, CD players, etc)
• Homework help to elementary and middle school students
• Daily snack after school
• Parenting programs
• Self-esteem programs
• Teen and adult economic growth programs
• Self-Improvement educational opportunity programs

Our History

The FLC opened its doors in 2002.  The FLC was originally funded by an RI Education Reading Grant. After the grant expired, the Lincoln School Department and the Town of Lincoln began funding the program.  As of July 2010, the Center  became funded solely by the Town of Lincoln and fundraising efforts.

 We now have over 11,000 books on our shelves, and more than 1000 families as members.

Who We Are

Mary Beauchemin- Director     Mary has been in charge of the FLC since its inception.  She manages all the day to day activites of the Center as well as administrative duties with running a non-profit organization.  Mary holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology, and a Masters in Library and Information Science.  mbeauchemin@lincolnri.org

Kris Turgeon- Asst. Director    Kris manages many of the back office functions for the Center including the website, creation of programs, space allocation, and general Jack of All Trades.   Kris' background is in business marketing and interior design. kturgeon@flcri.org

Kelly Dwyer- Craft Guru     During the regular work day, Kelly works with the elderly doing in-home care.  At the FLC, she runs the weekly craft sessions and helps the elementary kids with homework. kdwyer@flcri.org

Emily Cosme- Health & Wellness Guru  Emily works with the kids in our garden and making healthy choices.
